Juliane Byrenheid

Juliane Byrenheid began her musical education from the age of eight at the Music School “Johann Sebastian Bach” in Leipzig. She continued her musical training, from 2004 onwards, as a student of the Musikgymnasium “Schloss Belvedere” Weimar under the tuition of Prof. Jürgen Rost. Since her successful completion of a baccalaureate in 2009 she has studied the guitar diploma course at the Hochschule für Musik “Franz Liszt” in Weimar under Prof. Thomas Müller-Pering and finished in summer 2013. Afterwards she did her Masters degree in Classical Guitar with Prof. Ricardo Gallèn with a minor in Arts Mangement and did an exchange year at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow under the tuition of Prof. Allan Neave from September 2014 until September 2015, in between. In the summer of 2018 she completed her concert exam with honors at the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg” with Prof. Olaf van Gonnissen.

Juliane Byrenheid has won a number of competitions. Two times running she has won first prize, with maximum points and a special award, in the national “Jugend musiziert” competition, with mention „ outstanding success”. She has also gained Special Prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary set piece, in the 8th international “Anna Amalia Guitar Competition for young guitarists” in Weimar. In 2012 this was followed by 1st prize at the 4th International Guitar Competition “Westfalian Guitar Spring” in Erwitte and third Prize at the Aachen Guitar Prize. Juliane Byrenheid has two scholarships, one is from the “Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now” society Weimar in 2010. The other scholarship in 2012 was from the “Hans and Eugenia Jütting Foundation”.

She has a special interesst in different kinds of chamber music. Since her childhood she has played mainly in guitar ensembles, as well as in ensembles with violin, viola, flute, horn, voice, accordion, … Juliane recieved a 1st prize with the Rahanas Quartett (Judith Bunk, Victoria Hildebrandt, Alexander Keppner, Juliane Byrenheid) and 2014 with Judith Beschow. At the same time she dedicates herself to romantic music and especially to the composer and guitarist Kaspar Joseph Mertz – a contemporary of Franz Schubert. In 2012 she pruchased a romantic guitar (“Biedermeiergitarre”), played in this time and has devoted herself to discovering the special features of this instrument. She released her first CD in July 2014: „Liebesbotschaft“ with compositions by F. Schubert and C.J. Mertz.

In addition to her concert career as a soloist, in the Duo Jucorda and the Dresdner Gitarrenquartett she is working as a guitar teacher at the “Musikschule Sächsische Schweiz”. Furthermore, she is the project manager of the “Landesjugendzupforchester Thüringen” since 2016, since 2018 the artistic director of the Dresdner Gitarrenensemble and since 2019 vice president of the BDZ Sachsen.
